Lost Control of Your Summer?
Many agents start their summer with the best of intentions, but are derailed by chaotic transactions, life events, vacations, visiting family, and all manner of other things. Suddenly it is mid-August and that to do list is the same size it was in June. Need a bite-sized task that makes a difference and will give you a feeling of accomplishment? Regaining control might just start with your car!
I have talked with a number of agents lately who feel that they entered the summer with the best of intentions, but got derailed by chaotic transactions, life, and vacation time that took them out of their element. Now that it is mid-August and their to-do lists remain largely undone, they want to feel that they have accomplished something.
Does this sound like you? Regardless of whether you had ambitions to revamp your listing presentation, start a geographical farm, plan a client event, or even repainting your bedroom, there is still time to make progress!
How? All you need is an hour. Just one hour can help you get started and get on a path to project completion. You can find an hour somewhere in your schedule - get up a little early, put down your phone, turn off the TV - there are spare minutes everywhere you look!
The key with your hour is simply to get your head around one item on your to-do list. Once you get started on your research, writing, editing and so on, it is easier to complete the project. The hardest part is getting started.
However, if you aren't feeling your to-do list at all, aren't even sure why you added these things to your to-do list to begin with, and still want to have some sort of accomplishment, I have an answer for you.
Grab Your Car Keys
Ready to be empowered? If you are feeling so out of control that you can't even fathom spending an hour at your desk, then your environment may need some organization first. Your environment consists of everything from your office, your house, even your closet or your sock drawer!
But when I am feeling this way, I like to start with my car. Why? The car is a small space and it is contained. Unlike a closet which can easily cause chaos in the adjoining spaces like your bedroom, a car consists of the front seat, back seat, and the back - that's it. It shouldn't take you more than a few hours and when you are done, you should feel great!
If it has clutter, mostly what is likely in there is garbage, paperwork, maybe some clothing, and business supplies. That is easy to deal with!
Once you have cleaned up the clutter, it's time to vacuum, wipe down, and detail. Clean out the cupholders, the door storage, and wash the interior windows. Then, head to the car wash!
I promise you, once you have conquered your car and it is clean and shiny again with no clutter or garbage, you are going to feel great! In fact, that feeling may encourage you to start tackling some other things to your to-do list. Maybe even brave that drawer of unmatched socks.
