Authentic Client Communication for the Holidays

I know that this can be both a very special and stressful time of year for so many people, so I really want to remind you to not forget your wonderful clients – both those from your past and potentially ones in your near future as well. Take the time to connect.

Today I want to talk about connecting. We are in mid-December and I know that this can be both a very special and stressful time of year for so many people, so I really want to remind you to not forget your wonderful clients – both those from your past and potentially ones in your near future as well. Take the time to connect.

Here are a few ideas for authentically connecting with important clients in your sphere.

First, of course, December is of course a wonderful time to send out a holiday message. We all know this. However, I want you to make sure that you take it to a more personal level, a better level, by not just sending out a traditional card, but to include a personal note in each one. I have a pet-peeve, I don't like getting cards that just say, "Merry Christmas." That note might be something like:

  • "Hope you and your husband are doing well."
  • "Hope this year brings great things for you."
  • "It was great seeing you last month at the grocery store."

Make it personal and special. Take your holiday message to the next level.

The second thing is, if you have a little time, one of the most important things that all of us should do during the holidays is to take a moment to give to someone else. I always tell people that if you are having a bad day, make a donation to a charity of your choice. Giving back over the holidays, even in small amounts, is an act that will help you feel better.

One thing I've done for my clients, especially those who are passionate about a cause, is I will make a donation to that cause in their name or in their honor, and include a note about it in my holiday card to them. For example, for clients who have lost a pet, I like to do that for them.

Finally, this is a great time of year for you to be doing your Annual Client Reviews. If you are really busy right now, start getting those prepared and ready for completing in January. Even if you don't have the time to be doing them right now, you could begin gathering some of the data or photos that you will need and save that for when you are ready. This is such a great time of year to set yourself up for a wonderful year to come.

So, take the time to do something for yourself that will help you feel good. Do something for other people to brighten their day and brighten your own as a result. Do something for your past and potential clients that creates an authentic connection. Here's to a great end of the year!
