Branding Spotlight: Visual Bio

Branding Spotlight: Visual Bio

A visual bio is like a resume, add graphics and visuals will transform it from an essay into a feast for the eyes.

Have you heard of reading fatigue? It describes the mental and sometimes physical exhaustion that comes from frequent and/or excessive reading. It can be as mild as a sense of reluctance to read more, or as acute as headaches, blurred vision, and dry eyes. We’ve heard the rumors that nobody reads anymore. We disagree! People read a lot every day—but it’s not for fun. It’s all email and reports and those dreaded ads that pop up everywhere.

However, reading is a critical form of communication, and there are some really important things you want your clients to read. How can you combat reading fatigue in your clients?

Start with a Visual Bio. Your bio is a compelling piece of content that helps you connect with clients who want to work with you. If your bio is a block of boring text, chances are that potential clients have not read it. It’s not that they don’t want to get to know you—it’s the reading fatigue. Start by turning your milestones and achievements into bullet points. Include pictures and icons wherever possible. Add sections with catchy headers in bold, clear fonts.

Above all, include plenty of white space for breathing room! This allows tired eyes to scan the page quickly and the brain to easily understand what is there.

Here is a quick comparison between a bland text document and a visual bio. They both have the exact same information. Which would you rather read?
